From Athlete to Sports Executive: Nikita Ussenov’s International Approach to Boxing Management
Nikita Ussenov’s career in sports has developed across several countries and professional roles, from competing as an athlete in Kazakhstan and China to working in athlete development, professional boxing management, sports marketing and international business development in the United States.
His experience has given him a perspective that extends beyond competition itself. Through Tengri Sport Management, Ussenov works at the intersection of professional athletes, promoters, sponsors and international sports markets, helping fighters develop not only their careers inside the ring but also the commercial opportunities surrounding them.
From athletic performance to professional boxing management
Ussenov’s early experience in basketball exposed him to international competition and the demands of athletic performance. His interest in biomechanics and sports performance eventually developed into a broader understanding of the systems that support professional athletes.
After moving into boxing, Ussenov began applying that experience to the professional development of fighters. His work has expanded beyond individual athlete representation to include management, marketing, branding, sponsorship development and international business relationships.
One example is his work with professional boxer Yevgeniy Pavlov. Ussenov has been involved in the broader development of Pavlov’s professional career, including management, promotion, marketing and long-term career planning.
During one of Pavlov’s training camps, he worked with a team of three coaches led by Charles Mooney, a Hall of Fame boxing trainer. Following the camp, Pavlov moved to Philadelphia, where he continued his training
On July 18, 2026, Pavlov reached a significant milestone when he stopped Albeiro Paredes in the first round and captured both the WBC Continental Americas Championship and the WBA NABA Gold Championship.
For Ussenov, the result represented more than a single night in the ring. It reflected the broader professional structure surrounding the fighter: preparation, career management, promotion, marketing and the development of opportunities that can extend beyond an individual bout.
Expanding the business side of professional boxing
Ussenov’s work through Tengri Sport Management increasingly extends into the commercial infrastructure of professional boxing.
The company provides marketing services to Jeter Promotions, including event promotion, sponsor relations and athlete marketing. These activities place Ussenov in direct contact with the business side of professional boxing, where athletes, promoters, sponsors and audiences must be connected through effective commercial and promotional strategies.
Ussenov is also developing a professional relationship with Star Boxing, the New York-based promotional company founded by Joe DeGuardia, concerning potential marketing services. Such relationships form part of his broader effort to establish connections between athletes and organizations operating in different segments of the professional boxing industry.
His work has also expanded to athletes connected with some of the sport’s most prominent professional networks.
In June 2026, Ussenov entered into a marketing agreement with professional boxer Bek Nurmaganbet, who is part of the team associated with Canelo Alvarez. Nurmaganbet’s team is led by Eddy Reynoso, a trainer closely associated with Alvarez’s professional career.
Under the agreement, Tengri Sport Management is responsible for Nurmaganbet’s marketing and branding and is working to develop additional commercial opportunities around the boxer’s career.
The relationship represents another step in Ussenov’s development as a sports marketing professional working across the international boxing industry.
His role is not limited to promoting individual events; it includes developing an athlete’s commercial identity and identifying opportunities that can support the fighter’s career beyond competition.
Building international partnerships
International relationships have become another important component of Ussenov’s work.
In early 2025, British boxing equipment company Pro-Am became a sponsor of Pavlov. The sponsorship created an additional connection between Tengri Sport Management and the British boxing market and helped Ussenov develop relationships with British promoters interested in working with fighters from Kazakhstan.
These relationships reflect the increasingly international structure of professional boxing. Fighters may train in one country, compete in another, work with promoters from different markets and rely on sponsors and commercial partners from multiple jurisdictions.
For Ussenov, developing these connections has become part of his professional role. His experience across Kazakhstan, China and the United States has enabled him to approach athlete management with an international rather than purely local perspective.
Beyond boxing
Ussenov is also expanding Tengri Sport Management’s activities beyond traditional professional boxing.
The company is developing opportunities in mixed martial arts and Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, while considering potential representation of athletes from Kazakhstan, England, Russia and China.
This expansion reflects Ussenov’s broader approach to sports management. Rather than limiting his work to arranging individual competitions, he is developing a business model that combines athlete representation, marketing, branding, sponsorship and international business development across combat sports.
Building careers beyond the ring
Ussenov’s career has evolved from competing as an athlete to understanding and participating in the professional infrastructure that surrounds elite sport.
His experience in basketball introduced him to international competition and athletic performance. Boxing gave him an opportunity to apply that knowledge to professional fighters, while management and marketing opened a broader field involving promoters, sponsors, commercial partners and international sports organizations.
Today, Tengri Sport Management operates at that intersection.
For Ussenov, managing an athlete is not limited to arranging the next fight. It involves developing the athlete’s professional identity, creating commercial opportunities, establishing relationships with sponsors and promoters, and identifying international opportunities that can contribute to a fighter’s long-term career.
His work with Pavlov, Nurmaganbet and other professional boxing relationships illustrates this broader approach. At the same time, his activities with promoters and commercial partners demonstrate the business dimension of modern professional sports, where an athlete’s career increasingly depends on effective management, branding, marketing and international connections.
Ussenov’s own journey across Kazakhstan, China and the United States has shaped that perspective. What began with an athlete’s interest in performance and the mechanics of sport has developed into a professional career connecting athletes, business and international sports markets.
Through Tengri Sport Management, Ussenov continues to build a professional platform focused on the development, promotion and commercial growth of athletes across boxing and other combat sports.
